PEIAHA Executive Visit

Our first regular meeting of 2011 turned into a party when we held a supper reception for the PEIAHA executive.  President Linda Patterson-Gibson and Treasurer Elinor MacLeod made the trip to Tyne Valley from the east while Vice President Norma Getson joined us from the west.

Our ladies provided a lovely meal and everyone enjoyed getting together for food and laughs on a dark January night.  The ladies stayed for our meeting and also updated us on what the PEIAHA have planned for the coming year.  Follow the link in the right sidebar to our Picasa photostream for more photos from this evening.

2010 Christmas Tea

Our 2010 Christmas Tea was held on November 17, a rainy day that made being together in the Tyne Valley Fire Hall that much nicer!  Thanks to those who came to the tea and purchased raffle tickets, baked goods and crafts, we raised over $2,300 for Stewart Memorial Hospital.

This was our first Auxiliary event in the renovated fire hall and it went very well.  There were many positive comments about the updated facilities, especially from those working in the kitchen: we all love the new dishwasher!

And a big thank you to our members for their hard work preparing food, crafts and working at the tea, and to community members who volunteered their time to prepare and serve food.

Special thanks to local decorating expert Shelly Campbell who donated her time and materials to transform the fire hall with her gorgeous Christmas-themed decorations.

We are all so lucky to live in such a generous and caring community.  Congratulations, everyone, on a job well done!

60 Years Together

Today we celebrated the 60th Anniversary of our Auxiliary and it was a great celebration.  The Northam Community Centre was beautifully decorated in a fall theme by the amazing Shelly Campbell.  Rowena and Karen of Between Friends Catering served a delicious lunch: cream of squash soup with a warm homemade roll; roasted pork loin with caramelized apple and pear, herbed whipped potatoes and a medley of mixed vegetables; and an ice cream crepe with raspberry sauce.

Many present commented that the best part of the event was seeing so many past and present members together.  These women have all worked hard for the hospital and it was wonderful to share this milestone with them.  The room was filled with laughter as everyone greeted old friends.

Special guests included: representatives from each of our sister auxiliaries; Linda Patterson-Gibson, President of the PEIAHA;  Dr. Madigane; MLA (and former auxiliary member) Paula Biggar, who brought greetings from Premier Ghiz and Minister of Health and Wellness Carolyn Bertram; Hospital Administrator Andrew MacDougall; Nurse Coordinator Kelly Blanchard; Foundation Chair Leigh Newcombe.

Verna Barlow was emcee and made an excellent job of highlighting six decades of our achievements.   Thelma Phillips presented a slideshow of our history.

Our President Doreen Wooder masterminded the whole event. Doreen, a former caterer, spent many hours organising this day and her attention to detail was evident.  Well done, Doreen!

Here's to another 60 years!
