Stewart Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary presented their seventh annual Dr. Joyce Madigane Memorial Scholarships on December 31, 2020 to Halle Augustine, Hilary Bulger and Caitlin MacLennan, who are all studying at UPEI. Ms. Augustine and Ms. MacLennan are both 4th year Bachelor of Science in Nursing students, and Ms. Bulger is a 3rd year radiography student. SMH Auxiliary president Aleah MacLennan made the presentations.
Dr. Joyce Madigane served the Tyne Valley area as a family doctor and medical director of Stewart Memorial Hospital for nearly 40 years before her death in 2014. She was always very encouraging of young people who were considering a career in healthcare. The Auxiliary created the scholarship to keep alive the memory of her service to the community. As of this year, $12,000 in scholarships have been awarded.
