3. When are the scholarships advertised?

The SMH Auxiliary will advertise the annual scholarship information on our website and on our Facebook page by November 1 each year.

4. When are the scholarships awarded?

The Scholarship Committee will meet to review all applications after the deadline for that year. Successful applicants will receive their scholarships between Christmas and New Year.

5. How often can I apply?

Students are only eligible to receive one scholarship per program of study. For example, if someone receives a scholarship during their Bachelor of Nursing degree and then goes on to do a Master of Nursing degree, that person could apply again during the second year of their Master program, but would not be eligible for more than one scholarship during their Bachelor program.

If you apply for the scholarship but are not successful, please apply again another year if you are eligible; the committee does not keep track of how many times someone applies.

6. How are the recipients selected?

There are four people on the scholarship committee: the three people on the selection committee who read the applications and select the recipients, and one person who acts as administrator. The administrator receives the applications through the Auxiliary email account. After the application deadline passes, the administrator removes identifying information from the applications and sends them to the selection committee so they can be judge anonymously. The committee read the applications and base their decision on the scholarship criteria. The committee has used both in-person meetings and virtual processes to select the recipients.

7. What is the Stewart Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary?

The Stewart Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary started in 1950 and were then known as the Ladies Aid of the Stewart Memorial Health Centre. The group raised money for the building of the health centre in Tyne Valley, which was later known as the Stewart Memorial Hospital. After the hospital was closed in 2014, the group decided to continue their fundraising efforts and support the Stewart Memorial Home and other health-related activities in the Foxley River to Grand River area. The SMHA have about 20 active members and hold fundraisers throughout the year.
